One of the coolest aspects of Colonial Events is the fact that we’ve had the opportunity to be exposed to all the fun and drama of South Asian wedding decor. Being able to provide the décor for these multiple events has taught us to stretch our creative muscles, think outside the box, and design differently. In a few days span, several events call for different themes, colors, and tone. One of our favorite of these events is the Sangeet.
Full room view of the elaborate morrocan themed Sangeet at the Suburban Showplace Diamond Center in Novi last fall. This large ballroom with 20’ ceilings provided plenty of space for two 30’ long fabric canopies, lounge areas, and crystal ceiling panels that stayed through the rest of the weekend’s events.
WHAT IS A SANGEET?
A Sangeet is a big party that happens the day before the wedding. Normally, those invited to the wedding are invited to the Sangeet, so it’s usually held in the ballroom or locale of the wedding. There is food and lots of dancing!
WHAT IS COLONIAL'S ROLE?
On the décor side of the event, we are brought in by the client or the planner. Often, we spend months planning the perfect design and seeing it all come together is pure magic. While each couple is different, it seems that the Sangeet is consistently colorful and fun! The Colonial crew will spend the morning/day of the Sangeet setting up décor items like an elaborate backdrop, ceiling décor, uplighting around the room, food stations, canopies, and furniture. And more times than not, we sneak back in after the event is done and flip the room for an early morning ceremony!
